Artificial Grass vs Pet Artificial Grass? and how to install?

I have a small townhouse backyard that I recently did a makeover on. I paid to have the yard regraded, added topsoil and put down sod. Within a month, the sod was dead. I have two very large trees but just cant get enough light in the yard and grass will not grow. I would like to put artificial grass down but am overwhelmed by the variety and whether or not i need to use Pet Turf. I do have two dogs, but the pricing is so very expensive. With it only being about 15 x15 space I am thinking of tackling it myself?

Prior to revamp.

  • Wow! You did a beautiful job! Yes the brands marketed for dogs is even more expensive and quite an investment. You can learn about them here:

You most certainly can install yourself. Before purchasing, read the installation instructions carefully. These days almost every manufacturer has corresponding You Tube videos to accompany their product. It is a bit of a process, but judging from the work you have already done, you are up to the task. Compare guarantees and warranties carefully.

Sam's (discount warehouse) sells artificial grass in pieces at a much cheaper price. You might want to check it out and see if you could piece some together. You could probably find the price online.

I'm certain there is a distributor and installer close to your area. As far as K9 turf drainage: WHAT HAPPENS TO DOG URINE AND WASTE?

Can dogs go to the bathroom on artificial grass? The answer is a resounding YES! In fact, artificial grass is ideal for dogs and pets. In regards to urine and waste, our synthetic grass system is not much different from natural grass. With our ProFlow technology, urine washes straight through the turf into the drainage blanket or the specially formulated crushed rock sub-base. This drainage system is vital for your artificial grass to be pet friendly. Without a proper base or turf that is not permeable, you will be left with a myriad of pungent problems. As for the solid pet waste, it can be removed using your current process, only it tends to be easier and less messy with the ProGreen grass.

Remember that we have installed our artificial grass in pet boarding facilities all over the country, where hundreds of dogs use it as a bathroom. It not only stands up to all of this heavy traffic, but thrives. So, there is no question that our dog turf would perfect for your home as well.

How do you clean synthetic grass?

Rain is usually sufficient, but you can spray your turf with a hose if you feel it is necessary.

Can ProGreen synthetic grass get rid of pet odors?

Yes. ProGreen Pet Deodorizer Granules™ remove pet urine odors from artificial grass. ProGreen Pet Deodorizer Granules™ are used as an infill between the blades of grass during installation.

We know that you may have many more questions about artificial grass in regards to your pets, so please do not hesitate to contact us. Check out their FAQs at progreen.com

I don't know where you live, but there are grasses that will grow in the shade.

This is a great post, and I learned something exciting and valuable. It's fantastic that you decided to put your artificial grass because it looks good even if you have pets running around on it. I'm telling you from my experience because I installed my artificial grass. Of course, I can do nothing about the fact that my kids like to play with our dog, but this way, I will be sure that the real grass will not be damaged. It's so much easier for me, and I can somehow improve the yard or replace it with another one at any time.
