Cement support- We are open for any ideas!

Hi. We have a cement pad at the end of our driveway, it drops off about 2-4 ft. at different spots. It has been supported by railroad ties that are now rotting, and need some form of replacement. We want to do it ourselves to save expense. Someone recommended large stones? We are open for any ideas!

Thank you,

Lisel

Can you put bricks or concrete blocks under?

Unless your good with doing stone work, I would go with reinforced concrete blocks (as in rebar), and build yourself a retaining wall underneath that will hopefully hold up your concrete. I would think your going to need some jacks to hold the slab up while you remove the rotten ties so the slab doesn't break up.... like support it with a 4x6 beam under the edge of the slab and put a jack under either end. You can rent jacks from a equipment rental place, make sure you put them on a stable base like a piece of 2 x6" lumber.
