How to easily enlarge shower?

Would like to cost-effectively enlarge the shower to include this alcove. That’s the walls & the drain pan. What do you recommend that is cost-effective?

Shower on the left and drywall alcove on the right.

Tear out the alcove and move the wall. A new drain pan, of course, and shower surround will be needed. The cheapest route would be a prefab unit from a home improvement store. Plan on about $1000, at least.

Hi, I think Mog30239221 is spot on. I'll just add that you can special order surrounds that will fit the enlarged area from one of the big box stores. Know where your drain sits - measure left, right, front, back and go from there. Good luck!

You will need to be sure you use Sheetrock that is rated for a bathroom area as well. This is important as if you use the wrong product, you will run into an expensive repair.

yes Melinda. look for a cement type board like durarock not sheet rock ( which can get ruined with water) but a backerboard.
