What is the best way to clean very stained grout without all the toxic chemicals. My husband is going thru chemo and a lot of the smells really bother him.

I have found that bleaching products that you buy to clean bathrooms work well. But those do smell. A Mr. Clean Magic Eraser might also work. Or, you could make your own paste of salt, vinegar and baking soda: https://cleaning.lovetoknow.com/Homemade_Grout_Cleaner
I've used Lauren's idea of salt, vinegar and baking soda. Works well with elbow grease {scrubbing.}
Hardware stores have a product that paints over grout. Some stains just won't come out no matter what and this is a solution for that. It might take a while to paint each little line though.
My son made a paste of Oxy Clean and scrubbed with a toothbrush. It came out beautifully. - from brown back to blue. I don't remembered any chemical smell. He sealed it when it was dry to keep it from staining.
