Weeds- Could you please give me some advice?

I see people's flower beds & they always look so pretty. No matter what I do, lay plastic or fight weeds, they always seem to take over my flower beds. Could you please give me some advice. I feel like I'm fighting a losing battle & there is just something I'm not aware of that other people are using or doing. Thanks. Suzanne

My husband weeds and then lays mulch. Gives a very nice look and keeps the new growth of weeds down somewhat

I've weeded, laid plastic & even mulched. Weeds continue coming through & taking over. I see other yards where they lay much & it never comes back. I just thought maybe there was something I was not familiar with.

Hi Suzanne, Weeds grow faster than flowers and plants , so you have to keep weeding every time you pass by, pull a weed or three. gardens to be beautiful have to be tended. To be successful you have to enjoy your garden and the chores..........Happy Gardening! If not Plant silk flowers and plants................!

May they have a gardener or groundskeeper like the Royal Family. We call it “fighting” weeds for a very good reason. Some of my friends are out at daylight to pull weeds. They may also use borders around flowerbeds, anything from plastic to bricks to cement. They clean out the beds every autumn and every early spring. The buy lots of annuals so there is not much space between plants. They have shrubs and trees, many of which are evergreen or long-blooming. And some of them do hire a company that comes around to manicure their lawns and gardens. You have to decide if the labor is worth the payoff. Happy gardening, Suzanne! ☺️

I understand your frustration, I have to pull weeds every day. And I used weed cloth and river rocks on top, still get plenty of weeds. And some people use weed preventer/killer products, but I really limit using any myself. We're actually getting ready to pour cement in the front beds and use it as an extended "porch" - I only have a small stoop right now. I will put potted plants up there, and no more weeding in that spot - yay!

My problem is, my flower bed is all the way across the from of my house, on the side & across the back. There is no way I have time to work on all beds daily. This year I broke my wrist back in February so, their out of control now when I'm finally able to use both hands not.

Trust me, my beds look like a jungle right now! I know how hard it is, and I actually am looking at hiring a few teens to come help me. we have beds around all 4 sides, a paver patio, plus the garden beds in the back. We have been so hot and rainy, plus we were gone for a few weeks. I have totally lost control, or the little I had! Good luck, and just do what you can when you can. Also, maybe ask some of those people if they use a service or weedkiller.
