Google “framing a doorway”. If this is a project you feel you can do, research the easiest way. I would only cut the wall open - and ditch the stupid 32” door, if I had a clear plan.
My concern is that this might well be a load bearing wall.
Your alternative, obviously, is to hire a pro.

I have a house that was built in 1913, two bedrooms with the same type of closet. I had a carpenter cut out a spot for a second door.
