I want to DIY my craft area

I live in a small 1 bedroom apartment and I am in need of organization for a corner in my living room. But I do not know how to start. All I know is that I want everything white and matches. I am on a fixed income so my strategy has to be very budget friendly.

My suggestion, a two bedroom apartment! Your crafts have taken over.

I love that you are a crafter. As my mother always told me...creative people don’t have time to put things away because we have too many ideas running through our head. However, some basic organization is needed to be productive and to avoid becoming overwhelmed in your work space. I would round up some boxes or tubs and sort your items into categories, depending how you use them and how often you use them. The items you need accessibile often should be considered after you designate your work surface needed. Items that you know you will use but not often can be stored in tubs. Projects in waiting can also be stored in a container as you aquire the supplies needed. I have boxes for all kinds of crafting. I use clear storage and a label maker to help me locate things easier. You could also cover boxes and lids with fabric or brown paper sacks or some kind of wrapping paper or craft paper to tie it into your living space. Good luck!! Getting started is the hardest part but will be so worth it.

You have a lot of space in the corner of your living room. Shelves with boxes would hold a lot of supplies and a corner work area would give you a service to work on.

You can get some inexpensive bookcases at walmart or ikea. (Both places sell white ones too!) You can also look for small filing cabinets (those can be expensive though! Maybe look at thrift stores.) that will hold up a piece of wood, or an old door for your desk. Then, all you need are some containers for further organization. You can find those very inexpensive at the Dollar Tree. Maybe a lamp from the thrift store (or even Ikea).

You got this! It will end up being so cute and functional!

Here are some pics of what I'm talking about with the filing cabinet/door desk (keep in mind, you CAN just get a piece of plywood instead of the door!: https://www.google.com/search?q=door+and+filing+cabinet+desk&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS727US727&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjIhv_wlKvcAhXM44MKHZnNBCMQsAQIVA&biw=1920&bih=947

I just bought an Ikea Trofast storage combination. My craft area is in the basement out of sight but this is still a nice looking piece. Maybe you'll get lucky and find something on Craigslist.

Your craft area looks like my first one did, lol. After a while the chaos gets to be overwhelming and you just have to stop.

First step is to sort and purge. It looks like you have started just piling things in the corner. Go through this and decide what stays here and what goes elsewhere. Put things where they go.

Step 2.. Now you know what you have. You want all white. So many OPTIONS! I have used shoe boxes covered and labeled with index cards. I love the Dollar Store and Dollar Tree. Think outside the box, literally.

Plastics from the kitchen, small bowls or cups, my work space was a computer desk I got at Walmart.. for a kids room.

Don't think you have to do it all at once. Once it's sorted you can store in a closet if needed.

Have fun and don't stress about it.
