Update Your Art Frames

A good friend bought some vintage art pictures for her new home but the frames did not go with the color scheme. She knew though that I could update them and that is just what I did. Check out how I did so

Here are the art pieces she purchased. She loved the "weed" prints and mats just not the stark frames. She wanted them softened and much lighter.

I painted them a soft grey that matched the inner mats almost perfectly. I left a bit of the inner gold on the frame to coordinate with the matting. While the paint was fresh I wet distressed the frame edges to reveal some more of the frame details and gold as well as age it and give dimension.

Black wax was then added once dry to make the detailed frame POP and again add age back to the art work.

The finished pieces were just what she hoped for and are now proudly hung in her new home. She is even considering returning to the picker salesman to get some more. :)

If you have art that you love and the frames are just not quite right, grab a paint brush, some paint and even some dark waxes and make them over
