Sand it down and paint it. You could make it a major focal point with a bright color. Farm house style with white chalk paint and dark wax. Or go modern with a dark gray.

Beautiful table! Because it is solid wood you could sand it down and refinish it. It would be SO pretty if you considered staining the top and maybe painting the base white.

Is the top formica that looks like wood or is it wood? I had a similar table but the top was formica. Chalk paint doesn't stick very well long term on a well used formica table top even if you use primer first and poly over the chalk paint. I ended up using chalk paint on the legs and chairs but made a top out of wood to replace the formica top. If it is wood you can just use chalk paint and poly over it. TIP: If you do a white chalk paint--use a water based poly as a sealer so it doesn't yellow over time.

I just used a product from Home Depot (cannot access the order to give you the product name : ( that prepped the wood so that I could paint my oak table. I ended up staining the top to and painting the base an off white to match kitchen cabinets. Then painted the chairs (mine have cushions) . The combo looks terrific and updated.

Maybe you could use a paint color color that compliments your kitchen or pulls on a color in a connected room.

Paint the table and get some new chairs.... While you're at it, maybe change up the color scheme in the area/kitchen with a few new accessories and curtains or blinds. You'll be amazed at the change! Good luck!

That looks like the least pressing issue in that space—— focus on the room- pick a theme- edit what’s there.... maybe won’t need to change table

If it's one of the solid oak tables that are really old don't mess it up. Find a buyer who will appreciate it's history.

I'd just sand it down and refinish that table. Such nice wood it would be a shame to paint over that. Perhaps a darker stain since you floor is light. Also stain the chairs will you are at it. Maybe some color on the walls and colorful seat cushions for the dining chairs. Curtains for the front windows could bring in color and coordinate with the dining room chair cushions.

Since your floors and walls are light in color Id go darker on the table/chairs. I don't like painted wood because you lose the beauty/grain of the wood. Stain it with a dark espresso or ebony color. Get the stain with shellac in it already so its one step and you don't have to buy a can of shellac/varnish and do another step. It will look beautiful in a darker stain and really stand out. Staining it will bring the beauty of the wood grain out where painting it will hide/cover it up. And the chairs are fine to keep so don't listen to the others to replace them. Just stain them too to match the table and if you'd like buy colorful seat cushions for them. It will look like a brand new set. Enjoy! Its cheaper to redo what you have then to go out and buy a whole new set. If it aint broke don't fix it is my motto.

I have an old claw foot table, much like yours. It was stripped and refinished in probably the early eighties by my dad in a slightly darker stain, then coated with numerous layers of polyurethane. It still looks like the day it was refinished, but darker than the normal hardwood floors colors. It looks great against the lighter floors. It would be a shame to paint an old piece of furniture like that, that probably has history on it. It could have years more history on the beautiful wood to come and pass it on like mine was. The table was my dad's mom's, passed on to him, then passed on to me when he passed. My daughter is waiting for it to be passed on to her, etc.

I wouldn't do a thing to it. I think solid oak, maple, cherry are beautiful. If it was a newer cheap piece I would paint it.

You could paint the bottom with a gripper primer and any payex paint, and restain stain the top darker. Gel stain minimizes the need for sanding.
