Thrift Store Shelf Makeover

I have to show you guys the reason that you don't pass up that ugly thrift store shelf! I loved this shelf because of the curved features at the top, but it wasn't very attractive otherwise. With a few simple steps, this shelf has transformed into something I love.

Here is my shelf. Cute curves, but a little dirty and dinged up. I started my project by wiping off all the dirt and dust. A damp rag works just fine.

Next, I painted the shelf with this white chalk paint. I didn't paint the back panel because I knew I'd be covering it up with paper.

Let the paint dry completely. I used a napkin to figure out the paper size for the upper panel since it was a weird shape. You can also measure the pieces and use a ruler to cut out your background pieces.

Now that you have your paper cut and ready to go, you want to spread the Mod Podge on the back panel and place the paper over it. I used Martha Stewart 12x12 paper, but you can use actual decoupage paper, tissue paper, cardstock, wrapping paper or paper napkins. I love this tropical paper by Martha also and you can grab it here: https://amzn.to/2L7j142

Use a book to smooth out any bumps or bubbles under the paper.

Once the Mod Podge is completely dry, your shelf is ready to be used.
