I skipped the Orkin and the gardening supply/chemical sites and went straight to The Old Farmers Almanac: https://www.almanac.com/pest/japanese-beetles

It's a wonderful site and I learned something new: geraniums attract Japanese beetles and 'make them loopy.' The OFA is too polite to say drunk. 😂 But then you can collect the little buggers and do what you do with them. Good luck!

I'm sure other Hometalkers have had success with other potions, so don't hesitate to write back with any other concerns.

Hello. The best way is to flick them off into a bowl of soap water. Don't use the traps. They just attack more. I have been flocking them off and every year I am getting less and less.

Once you have picked them off....sprayed to kill them; plant geraniums next to or mixed with your rose bushes, trees, vegetables plants, etc. Geraniums are a natural deterrent to Japanese beetles. It may take a season or two to get rid of all of them. They lay their eggs in the soil. DO NOT USE THE BEETLE TRAPS. This will just attrack more. The beetles that don't get in the trap just lay more eggs that hatch next year thus continuing the cycle. once you have broken the cycle continue to plant geraniums and you will have no more beetles.
