How much of the unit sticks out into the room? If it's relatively flush, maybe you could get a large picture frame, put some pretty artwork in it and hang it in front of the unit. If you're worried about airflow, instead of a frame how about a pair of shutters? Mount them on hinges on either side of the unit, paint them to match your decor, and add some silk flowers for color. If the shutters don't impede airflow, keep them closed so you don't have to look at the AC unit. If not, simply open them as you would a regular pair of shutters to use the AC and close them back up when done.

Your living room wall or a a living wall (a indoor wall covered with plants)?

Hi, Mog, unless your #s are different, I believe I ran into you recently on HT. I like your idea of a living wall of plants; maybe not floor to ceiling, wall to wall, but enough to say this is an indoor garden. I would definitely opt for fake ivies where the unit would dry out a real plant.

I wouldn't be afraid to throw in some silk flowers that just happened to pick up and enhance the design colors. Some real plants might need more lighting, so a dramatic floodlight to its best advantage may make this the feature of the room - or the home.

Der, if you're anywhere near the heatwave the National Weather Service is predicting, you'll be sacked out in front of the unit with a cold iced beverage. Invite me over, I'll byob!

Ideally, a 3 or 4 panel screen would work best to provide maximum air circulation. Try Wayfair, Amazon, At Home, Overstock, etc., to find one that fits the decor and your budget.

Well you need the air flow unblocked, so choices may be limited. I'm thinking put a bookcase the same color as the unit right in front of it. Books, tchotchkes, plants, on the other shelves, but leave the shelf in front of the air open. It's the hide in plain sight option. Jan, other Hometalkers have come up with wonderful ideas here, so let's see what they suggest.

Make a frame around it that attaches to wall, DIY just use the heavy duty picture hangers then, use a decorative cover that you can screw to the cover. There are decorative metal sheets at Home Depot and Lowe’s. Or screw in a decorative rubber outdoor mat to the frame, paint or leave as you like. Then you can remove to adjust, and rehang.

Per the current heat waves among us.. Maybe a floor screen with some inviting winter scenes would help cool the room off quicker

The idea of living plants would be fine but, I wouldn't do that in summer. The plants most likely would not survive the cold air blowing on them. When the AC is in use, you do not want to block it. For the AC to work properly, it needs the air flow to make it efficient and not make the AC work so hard. In cold weather, you might want to place a nice comfy chair in front of it to hide it.
