Did you use Liquid Bails Construction Adhesive? Only thing I know of with the strength you need. Just make sure you use enough to cover everything, then brace it in place while the adhesive sets up.
What type of "fireplace" are you trying to install?

Buy wall fixing plates, and fix them to the Fireplace and to the wall. sink them into wall and Polyfill the recess or use a trim to cover them.......Good luck.
