How can I sanitize old dock boards?

I have some old dock boards, 2 X 6, that have achieved a gorgeous patina over the years of being in the sun and surviving winters. I'd like to use them for headboards in the house, but am not sure how best to rid them of possible bugs and other nasties. What do you suggest?

Heat! Raise them up off the ground, wrap them in clear plastic and give them a sunbath for a couple weeks. If washing them won't destroy the patina, wash them first. If not, that's OK, as its the plastic and heat that kills the bugs. I would not use any chemicals as you are going to sleep close to your new headboard.
