Space between concrete slab and ground- Do we need to repour?

Just had a carport slab poured and the slab is “floating” on the edges and corner due to ground not being level. Do I insist they need to repour it?

They need to repair it at the very least. It will crack if not fixed.

They should have levelled the ground before pouring it! I would definitely call them to come back and fix it before it gets damaged

    Joe,

Yes... Hopefully they were bonded! Did they use a wire grid in that slab. It looks like it is getting thinner as it goes to the right but photos can be deceiving.

Yes, it must be redone properly. The wire grid/rebar is also mandatory for any slab that size. If they avoid you call the Better Business B. & that will investigate and get your money refunded. Always go with insured and bonded to protect your investment. Call BBB if concerned.🌷

That corner will definitely break off as you as drive your 4,000 lb vehicle on it.

My sister has just had a patio and walkways done in several places in her yard. She was told that fill should be brought in and the ground should be brought up to the level of the new slabs. This protects the integrity of the edge of the new concrete. The photo looks like the new drive surface is level with the garage door and that would be desired. Maybe the homeowner wanted it to slope down as it runs away from the garage. I would attempt to fill and landscape or seed the area adjacent to the new edge. Fill dirt will settle, so you will need more than you think you will need.

This. ^^^^^ Look at your estimate and see what it says before you call your contractor. You need fill dirt brought in and graded gradually away from your slab. Unless the contractor said he would bring in fill and regrade your landscape, I would think that this falls into your lap. One commenter said it should have been leveled, no it requires filling not leveling. The contractor gave you a level slab so now you as the homeowner need to bring your landscaping up to match it. The only other way he could have done it, would have been to remove dirt and give you a sloped (decreasing grade away from garage door) slab. But most people prefer a level slab. Whatever happens needs to happen before someone drives on the corner which would break it off.

    Yes it’s wil eventually crack

Looks like the ground was not leveled. The slab does not look like it's a uniform thickness. The corner will definitely crack. But I think the thin areas of the slab will also crack. I would have them demolish and repour.
