You could put up some trellising and plant vining plants. If it would get enough sun, you could even plant gourds, squash, cucumbers, pole beans, etc. on them. You can hang plants from the wall, paint strips, geometric shapes, pictures, whatever, instead of just painting one color. There are many things you could do with the cement retaining wall, Gloria, just think about what you want it to look like in the end.

Thanks for your suggestions. Unfortunately the sun comes up and then goes right over my house and it's pretty shaded back there. Maybe something could grow there. Thanks.

I like the vibrant painted block walls as a backdrop for other things.... https://www.pinterest.com/search/pins/?q=paint%20a%20cement%20block%20wall%20a%20bright%20color&rs=typed&term_meta[]=paint%20a%20cement%20block%20wall%20a%20bright%20color%7Ctyped

some add a tile panel scene, or a fountain hung on the wall. I've had one with little platforms screwed into the wall to show off my bonsai trees or it could be little pots with succulents.

Gloria, there are lots of plants that will grow with morning light for the most part. Check out a local greenhouse, they will be able to suggest plants that will grow with less light in your area. You could make some pallet gardens, like the one in todays main email and put against the cement wall to take up some height. There are many plants that love mostly shade, We have spider plants, tuberous begonias, impatients, elephant ears, coleus and hosts in our front yard that pretty much only gets a little sunlight and they love it. Despite the huge elm and massive maple in the front yard, we have turner it into our little jungle. You can do this Gloria, turn the cement retaining wall into an area that you like!

Maybe put some plants on it so they could hang and grow on the wall plant morning glories on the bottom to grow up them or try Latice and cover the wall up
