Looking to refresh my Kitchen/Family Room. Thoughts?

If you're wanting a beach feel, and you're going to make the tv stand coffee table and end tables white, what about a pale blue, or a sand colour, or you could do both with trim to separate the colors half way up the wall

It would match with a beach vibe, and with the tables & tv stand and would be easy to accompany with beach decor

Probably the best way to get a beachy feel is to hang art that is reflective of the sea. Also you have "sand" colored furniture but if you changed out, or had made; covers for the sofas that are pale blue, green, or had a seashore theme in the pattern, that would also add to your chosen decor. Also place sea shells, coral etc around, also sea glass.

I like your idea of painting those pieces white. And I think if you look at some pillow covers for the sofa, it might help you narrow in on a paint color. The fireplace surround could be great for an accent color, too! A grey or sand on the walls, with a blue accent on the surround.

I love your flow of the rooms - I like the idea of having the walls all Fresh Linen by Behr Paint and for the accent wall I would put a sea glass color as I have shown. With the TV stand and tables I would paint them & then distress them to add interest . There some beautiful prints that inexpensive on line- Get a large one and place above the Fireplace. I could see either a Sea Turtle or possibly a large Crane. Place a large dish with sea shells on the coffee table and on the kitchen bar I would get a Large Vase and fill with sand, different color sea glass or a floral arrangement with hight to it. The kitchen chairs could be recovered (which is easy to do yourself) in a fabric of a light color & maybe some of the colors in your sea glass. With the pillows on the couch I would again play up the beach look with pillows that have palm trees or other beach scenery. Last but not least- Get an area rug and place in front of couch and under your coffee table. Put a Silk Palm plant on your fireplace in the corner. Concerning the new kitchen knobs/ drawer pulls on cabinets that was mentioned by "Ron" . I think that is an Excellent Idea! Good Luck !

Still working on a paint color for that huge room. Thoughts on this?

In my opinion that couch is dragging the whole room down, as it is drab, dirty, and saggy. Because it is way too large for the space, it is hampering any creative arrangement of other items in the room. I would take it out completely.

With clean space to work with, you can then start injecting crispness and colour with new furnishings, and fresh paint. A large area rug would define the sitting area, and additional lamps would add needed corner and multi level lighting.

Hi Maggie. I'm Cindy. I agree with above comments regarding painting the tables/tv stand white. They will go well with your windows and blinds. Beach decor is usually made with light blue, white and light green and tan. I think you should put some white sheers on the windows. Like sails on boats. Take a couple pieces of the sectional out. It's taking over the entire room. Get some slip covers on the pieces that remain. Perhaps a light blue. Add pops of color with pillows, rugs and art. Also change the color of your mantle. It's fading into the background right now. There is a tool that you can use to create a wood grain look.

Agree about that very well worn too too large sofa ....needs to go...in its place you may consider a couple of smaller living room chairs to watch TV ....you would have to judge for yourself on those...all good suggestions for whites, cool greens blues and whites...but that couch...gone!!

Before you go too far with the beach them, take into consideration your current style choice, which is more contemporary with touches of modern. With the exception of the couch and the pillows, which reflect a need for comfort, the rest of the furniture is black, flat and glass. You also appear to prefer a clean and organized home, so you may want to consider more cottage style with beach touches, and use a color pallet based on se glass colors. If you go too far using the beach style theme, it will not go with you fireplace. In addition, you current style lacks texture, and makes the room appear "flat". This picture reflects what I believe is a good compromise. It is not stark white, which is good, because too much white can be shocking in a bright room. It also takes into consideration your current style, and adds the missing texture, and your fireplace will blend in nicely. Remember you can always add color, so it might be a good idea to choose a neutral wall color that will carry from your living room into your dining room and kitchen area, but you can also choose a lighter color paint for the other rooms, such as the soft green in the lighting feature in this picture, and then maybe a lighter blue out of the picture on the wall. Otherwise, paint all the rooms the same color and then emphasize one of your three colors in the three different rooms, while still blending in the other colors. Your shutters will also go with this type theme, but you may want to consider adding curtains similar to the ones in the picture, which are slightly darker in color than the walls, and compliment your fireplace, and add texture to your room. The room design will also allow your the opportunity to change things up for the holidays using plants and holiday decor while still maintaining your color scheme. For example, you can replace the palmetto leaves on the sides of the fireplace with a combination of green tree, and aqua, silver, and gold ornaments, and for thanksgiving, the room will really pop with touches of autumn colors, and strong touches of amber. The idea is to evaluate the room from a 360 degree perspective, making sure all the colors in all three rooms blend nicely, and allow for change up based on seasons, and for entertaining purposes. Depending on the room, and especially the kitchen, you can add touches of bead board, for example around the base of the kitchen isle, or around the walls in the dining room. You can also add small touches like sea glass, with pops of cobalt blue, along with rope features, which can be done using shawls and cozy blankets using the sea glass color. You have tall ceilings, so you can maybe add a framing similar to the one shown in the picture, which will soften the room, so all the color and texture is at the bottom, and nothing at the top of the room. If you get tired of the beach theme, your core colors and style features will allow you to change out pillows, curtains, and art work, other decorative features, including the lighting, with minimal effort. Thank you all for the suggestions. We actually started shopping for a new couch and once the painting Is done, the fireplace is the next project. You’ve all offered some great ideas and I actually have a vision for the room now!
