It's that time of year again. Time for DIYers to begin crafting for the holidays. Especially those of us who make gifts for many people. Each Christmas, I make gifts for patients at a local nursing home. I started out by making these cute snowflakes for patients to hang on the community Christmas tree. The craft is easy, fast and inexpensive.

I used a basic snowflake template and taped it to the bottom of an aluminum pie pan. After covering it with parchment paper, I traced the outline with hot glue using my hot glue gun. Wax paper will not work, trust me because I tried it. Another caveat is to make sure that your layer of hot glue is thick enough. The thin, dainty lines are cute but the snowflake will not hold its shape when it dries. So a little more really is better.

Once the snowflake has cooled you are ready to paint. I used a basic acrylic paint.

Now you are ready to paint. You can use that wax paper now. I use vibrant Christmas colors for my snowflakes.

After the paint dries, the snowflake was covered with white glue in preparation for the final step...

which is the glitter. I used the silver fine grade giving it a good dusting.

I added a string for hanging my green snowflake...

A photo of my final red snowflake. They are now ready for hanging and enjoying. Peace.
