Wood Paneled Kitchen Backsplash

With one wall having granite installed that pulling out would require a full blown renovation, we opted to use self adhesive wood panels for our kitchen backsplash and the results are beautiful!

We started out by cleaning the wall surfaces to make sure there was no dirt, grease or debris on the surface.

We opted to go horizontal behind the stove and around the bottom of the window and vertical everywhere else.

behind the stove was our starting point

We started behind the stove to give a straight edge to work against for the vertical tiles we were gonna install around it. We used a jigsaw to make the horizontal cuts.

vetical installation everywhere else

Using the miter saw we measured and cut to make the tiles staggered or the vertical installation.

We used the mywoodwall self adhesive tiles that come with a peel and stick adhesive on the back of each tile.

For those odd cuts where there was little or no adhesive there was extra, that we applied ourself.

The adhesive sticks very well. You have to ensure proper placement when installing. Because once the panels were on, they were on!

When the cuts were made, some tiles required a gentle sanding with the hand sander to smooth the edges.

After all tiles were installed, I went over them with a coat of triple thick polyurethane to protect it from the elements it would be subject to in the kitchen.

The finished outcome is a cross between slow country and vintage farmhouse.

At Home Depot they have some wood plank vinyl flooring and many light wood-colors- almost Whites and light Greys— they have samples of it in displays where you get the flooring and they’re all free I always get at least a couple dozen when I go to Home Depot! Saving them for projects like this! They’re 3x4 inch already cut perfect pieces! You’d just need to add adhesive-and stick!
