Denim Peg Bag

Recently my sister-in-law asked me to make her a replacement peg bag, her last one blew away in the wind. She lives in an apartment in Amsterdam, I hadn’t realised balcony’s are so windy! I love working with old jeans, they are so versatile and hardwearing so it was my natural choice of material. But the key feature of this denim peg bag pattern is the key clip hook – surely this peg bag will not fly away, whatever the wind!!

To start the peg bag I cut out two lengths of denim from the jeans legs measuring 9.5” in length.

The denim was then trimmed to create three pieces, one for the back measuring 8 by 9.5”. The two front two pieces measuring 9.5 by 3.5" and one 5.5 by 9.5"

On the front bottom piece mark the washing line with tailors chalk and stitch on your sewing machine with a contrasting thread several times.

Cut out clothes and apply to washing line with a fabric glue. top stitch in place.

With your to front pieces place right sides together with the shorter piece along the top of the bottom piece (washing line piece).

Stitch in from edge for 1" with a 1/4" seam allowance. Repeat at the other edge.

Attach the all important key clip hook to the front of the peg bag panel, I used a waistband loop.

Place the right sides of the peg bag together, stitch around. Finish the raw seam edges with bias binding.

Turn right side out cut dowelling to size and insert to the top of the peg bag. Stitch to hold in place. For more detailed instructions check out my tutorial here. I am pleased to say this peg bag has not blown away!!
