I want flooring for a cabin in the woods.

The concrete floors and the temperature extremes (i.e. not heated in winter) make finding the right product difficult. I think moisture comes up through the slab floor so I am fearful of anything that sticks to the concrete. Also, it needs to be budget friendly. Any suggestions and if so, why?

  • Yup, that's what concrete flooring does. Was this explained to you when the cabin was being built? Was the concrete ever sealed? Check your local building codes and permit office. I would go with heated tile flooring, then add room size rugs for softness underfoot. At a minimum, I would have the floors properly sealed and buy carpet remnants and have bound.

You can buy a product called Drylock that will go over your concrete floor. It is meant to provide a warmer surface for installing flooring in a basement and perhaps it will work in your situation. It comes in panels and you install it over your concrete. It can add another layer of expense to your flooring but it may solve your problem. It does keep moisture away. I would check the fine print to see if this will work for you.

Thanks, this could work, I will check prices and check what floor coverings can be used with the Drylock.

    Vinyl (waterproof) would be best
