How do I paint vinyl siding?

I know I shouldn't use a garden hose or pressure washer to clean it before painting as the board behind it will get wet and disintegrate---what other method would be appropriate?

You can do this by hand, using extension poles for cleaning, and an attachment head with a sponge or microfiber cloth. Using hot water and lemon dish detergent, clean the vinyl. Rinse cloth before placing into dish detergent water to avoid spreading dirt/algae. You may need to scrub lower areas with microfiber cloth. Rinse gently and dry with other cloths.

Few professionals do, or even recommend it. It always peels. As anything paint, you need to paint a small area to be sure you will like it. For insights into how this will look in time, [and why pros discourage this] get a small sample piece of Aluminum Flashing from your nearest hardware store, and paint it.

To examine the long term effects: cracking, peeling and sun bleaching you encounter with painted vinyl, put the finished painted product in Bleach Water in an old soup can.

If after soaking it overnight, up to 3 days, you really love the outcome, you will love paint on vinyl too.

If you totally despise that outcome however, that cost you only about 60 cents, rest assured you will despise even more the outcome that costs Alot more than 60 cents.
