HOW TO RE-PURPOSE THRIFT STORE FINDS (THAT ARE NOT HAUNTED)

I went thru a thrift store phase a few years ago. I would hit a local vintage store south of Denver in between work commitments. In between the farmhouse finds and the antiques I found brassy, metal mailbox. I love mailboxes and sadly my neighborhood lacks the individual mailboxes. It was an inexpensive find and I had plans to use it in my kitchen to hold keys. Well, that mailbox went around the block, I mean house, a few times. The challenge to thrift store finds is to find a way to re-purpose or refinish so it works in your existing home. I learned that the hard way when I held onto an antique rocking chair only to find out my husband was creeped out by the rocking chair.
With an ongoing home office refresh, the mailbox found a new home in my home office, right next to the office door. It got a sloppy coat of Hale Navy paint. The mailbox added a little color to the Revere Pewter walls and a little charm. As far as I know, my husband was not spooked.
In today's email packed boxes, this little mailbox no longer holds mail. But with the tiny door lift centered on the front of the mailbox, it is ready to store something fun.Sometimes practical is overrated!
I would love your thoughts on what to store in the front compartment. I love the metal scroll detail. Although the metal scrolls no longer hold the local newspaper I want to find something for the scrolled arms. I planned to hang my keys, but that lasted for about a day. I drop my keys on my desk and then spend three minutes looking for them (hiding in plain sight).
I am so happy to re-purpose a vintage find where it found a new home in my home office. It is the perfect addition It is the perfect addition to an office with a mix of new and old finds. Here are a few fun re-purposed mailbox ideas.

Sorry if I'm too late to respond to this post but figured just incase I'd add my boring simple thoughts. Home office....I'm sure exactly what you use your office for or how much time you spend in there but I always need a cardigan close when I'm at my desk(I get chilled sitting still) even sometime because of the AC. So i would hang an extra cardigan on a hook and maybe a hanging(flat back) basket with greenery on the other? The inside... if you do any sort of smaller crafting... space to stack small pieces? Jewlery pieces, paints, yarn, etc?
