i had better luck this year with tomatoes in food grade drums sawed in half in cylinder shape rather than cradle shape with high quality growing mix. The depth allowed for better roots and stakes where needed.

Thanks so much. That makes sense. Oh well, better luck next year for me or maybe we’ll buy a house and have real garden.

not too late for tomatoes get your container and good potting soil and a good size plant and be diligent in watering and ooops almost forgot a cage for the vines hope this helps xx

I always grow some tomatoes in containers because they often do better. I stake them or use cages for both tomatoes and cucumbers to keep them from spilling over onto the deck. You need at least a gallon or more size pot for each to be happy.

I have the same problem in Virginia and especially in the raised beds. Good tomato cages help since they are made with long metal spikes that anchor them into the ground. I think a larger pot with rocks in the bottom, both for weight and drainage, might help you with tomato pots blowing over. Good luck!
