Looking for a safe, effective brass exterior door knob and dead bolt cleaner, suggestions?

    rolite metal polish is used by professionals. Make sure any clear coat is removed before you use the polish.

    Use BRASSO for cleaning brass.

    Vinegar, Salt and Flour: These versatile home staples can be combined to make a paste to clean tarnished brass. Dissolve 1 teaspoon of salt into one-half cup of vinegar, and add flour until the mixture becomes a paste. Rub into the brass, leave for about 10 minutes, then rinse with warm water and buff dry.


    Or use a can of coke and wipe off with a soft cloth after rinsing.

    Thank you all!! If at first you don't succeed, try suggestion #2. Toothpaste worked well on deadbolt but either my arm strength left me or it needed more attention. Off I go with ketchup! Saving all the ideas!

    I use basso - problem it looks like the lacquer is partly but not all off. Yu may have to use a solvent to remove all the lacquer to make it look right.
