Should I fix my broken doorknob or replace the whole door?
I broke it when I was locked out because I needed to get in quickly. The hole where the knob used to be is pretty messed up as is the lock mechanism.
See if you can find a cheap replacement door at the Habitat for Humanity Reclaim store in your area. They have cheap home repair items for the home.
If it is the door frame, not the door, you can buy a repair kit at most hardware stores like Home Depot or Lowes to repair it. Is it just a small area at the bottom of the frame? The kits are around $22.00 if it is a small area. Good luck.
How much of the frame is rotting? If you can let us know or send a photo i could see if it needs replaced or repaired.
Well here is a picture I hope it won't be much my dad was going to fix it but he passed away

Ah well, the good news is that you can repair that instead of replacing it. Hopefully you have someone that can help you or some tools available to you. Basically you want to cut the rotted area out just above where it was rotting and replace that section. It will save you a lot of money. Here is a website that could help you and it is very detailed.

It looks bad enough that you are going to have to cut out the rotted portion and replace it with pressure treated wood. Then you will need to caulk and seal every place where water could possibly be getting in. If you don't fix it now the rot will just spread and cause more problems. If you google "how to fix a rotting door frame" there are a ton of videos and web sites that will walk you through the procedure. Best wishes.
