Kitchen cabinet makeover?

Hello, I am looking to makeover my kitchen cabinets and island. not sure which would be the best technique, whether glazing or painting. I would like to do 2 colors and would prefer cream cabinets and sage on the island.. (possibly the lower cabinets??) I have dark hardwood floors and my cabinets are also dark so all kind of blends together. I am nervous about doing this by myself, so hoping maybe someone would have some good ideas and tricks up their sleeves. Thanks much!!!

If you're painting your cabinets, make sure to clean and prep them. We're painting ours with chalk paint (cuts the need for sanding out.) We're using a deglosser before painting. We painted my mom's last year. Cream on the top (to add light to the room) and a medium gray on the bottoms. I love it.
