Give Old Bedside Cabinets a New Lease of Life Using Paint

I found these old cabinets ready to be burnt. I think they used to be a part of a dressing table but as I was looking for some tall bedside cabinets, I knew these would work after a little bit of work!! As the wood was old it would be tricky with the bleed through so I didn't use chalk paint. My plan was to use paint, which would seal and cover those ugly bleeds in the process, so I used satin enamel paint from decoart which is meant for furniture just like this! I started by cleaning the cabinets and filling any gaps and damaged areas using wood filler.
The cabinets also had a bit of a musty smell so I had to get rid of that too before I could paint. My suggestion for getting rid of the smell - leave in dry and airy space for a week or so, I use a combination of mini humidifiers, onions cut in half and bicarb soda on a plate. they are all great to take the moisture out of the furniture and get rid of the smell. Don't paint over it as it will make things worse , get rid of the smell first!
I also had to remove the old hardware and fill the gaps. I re-used some wood from a chest of drawers I had and cut out and glued on the top part (which was missing) . After sanding, I painted 2 coats of Decoart Satin Enamel paint
Then all I needed to do was add new hardware and the bedside cabinets were as new!
