Helping our little garden friends doesn't have to be difficult. The bees, along with other garden pollinators, that we rely so heavily on for beautiful flowers and healthy fruits and vegetables, are struggling. There are many easy ways to help bees, but today I want to share these super simple mason bee houses. They were basically free because we used repurposed materials.

Once you've cut down your wood blocks, drill a series of holes with a 5/16 drill bit. They don't need to be super neat or straight. We used a 4 x 4 post leftover from a porch project, but you can use thicker wood. The holes shouldn't be any deeper than 5 or 6 inches.

Next add a roof that’s just slightly longer the wooden post. We used an old fence panel, that we cut to size. Then add a rope trim around the sides. Make a loop with rope and attach on the back as a hanger.

You don’t need to decorate, but it sure is fun and will add color to your yard.

This is one we decorated for our own yard. We made quite a few and donated some to the local community garden. It's a great way to use leftover materials and do some good for nature and the local community. Talk about a win-win!

We hope you enjoyed this project. Stay tuned for butterfly and bird houses!
