Gunk in my washing machine?

My wash came out with tons of black gunk that will smear if you touch it. My clothes are ruined. Do you think it's grease? My machine is 9 years old and has worked fine until then. I know it's time to buy a new one, but now I don't know how to clean my cotton tops. Oh, this is awful. Any help would be so appreciated.

Thanks,

Joy

    Hi joy,

Call the manufacturer, have your make and model number ready. They should help you with this.

I only have a slight idea of things that might work but they are worth a shot. The baby detergent Dreft used to being the grease out of my nephews clothes and he worked for the railroad. You can also try adding some Grease Lightning to your wash or a detergent that is made using vinegar or color safe bleach. I hope you find a solution and am so sorry to hear about your clothes. Good luck.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question.

This is weird what just happened...….I rinsed out the clothes by hand and all the stuff fell off so it wasn't grease. I am going out today to buy a new washing machine.

Are sure it came out of the washer ? Could there have been something hidden in the clothes ? Nine years is not old for a good washer . Best of luck !

Don’t use ur washer for trying to get the gunk out. Take pictures of each item and info on washer. Go to manufacturer’s website and send all info. 9 year old washer in this day and time is rare. They r all made to Last 5 years or less.

    Wish u well.

Just wondering if it could possibly be parts of rubber seals?

We wondered that too. We decided to go out and buy a new washer. Thank you for your suggestion.

Have you tried giving the washer a deep clean with a machine cleaner? i had the same problem and it was old soap scum left in the washer. After the deep clean it has been fine. I give it a deep clean regularly and i havent had it since.

This happened to me. Spray and Wash worked on it. On another note, we now have a front loading machine. I noticed severe gunk in the folds of the door sealing gasket. I was stunned. Clean geeks and regular foks will want to check that out!

Could it be mold from the folds of the door of your washing machine? About 9 years ago I think there was a problem with the washing machines getting mold in them....the newer models, not so much. At least I have not had a problem and my 3 year old washer has a cleaning cycle on it which I use faithfully.
