Where are you located? Your local county extension agent (master gardeners) can best assist you.

You can add camellias, butterfly bushes, nandinas, lilies, and also hostas, all of these are low maintenance.

Lilacs, day lilies, peony. It does depend on where you live. Might want to put in a soaker hose since it's on the south side.

Be careful what hostas and hydrangeas you choose since you are planting on the South (sunny and warm) side of the house. Many hostas can't stand up to that exposure. and hydrangeas will need a bit of water in that situation. They can stand about 4-6 hours of sun, but will wilt in afternoon with more than that. If they don't recover overnight, they're getting too much sun. Look at a good garden site for plants for a southern exposure.

If you have a deer problem, don't plant hostas, phlox, or daylilies. Actually, they also love hydrangeas so much that it's necessary to spray Liquid Fence concentrate. To save yourself much anguish, see the list of plants deer love at the Farmer's Almanac website, or get a list from your county extension agent.
