Path from patio to rose garden ?

by Kathy

I have a large patio and I am considering putting some kind of a path from the patio to a small rose garden with a bench. The path would be rather long. What is the best material and style path to use? Would stepping stones work best? How to lay them if so?

Stepping stones for sure, use sand underneath for leveling and to prevent weeds from growing in between. I love slate stepping stones

Hello Kathy, Line it with bricks or loose stone,. Maybe slate for the path, and maybe a few statutes large and small, to put just inside the path edge

Hi Kathy, I'd make a gravel {small white rocks} winding path. First, use a long hose to outline the path, you can keep moving it until you get just the exact shape that pleases you, then dig out about 4" of the soil in the width desired for the path. Put down landscape fabric making sure it has the correct side up so the water from rain, sprinklers, etc., will drain down through it but nothing can come up through it {just to make sure I'm putting it down correctly, I blow on one side of the fabric, if the air goes through, that's the side that goes up off the ground}, then fill in the area over the landscape fabric with the white rock. The rocks and fabric should prevent any grass or weeds from growing in the path and also make it easy to mow around.

Thanks. That is a good suggestion

I used mulch, but under it, I overlapped magazines until I ran out, then overlapped the plastic bags that the mulch came in. It's keeping the weeds down fine, I just need to line the edges with something to keep the mulch in place. Still thinking on that part 😉
