There are 2 that I recommend that are either free or close to it: first, pour boiling water directly on the weeds to kill them instantly. Next, spray a mixture of half water, half white vinegar on the base of the weeds. They should die in a day or two. If you have a large area, use a large sprayer that holds 1+ gallon.

Mari, just squirt all the places with vinegar with 1/4 as much salt mixed in with the vinegar. If some grass comes back, squirt again. You should only have to do this about once a month or less in warm weather. But grass and weed seeds are blown around all the time, so spray when you see signs of life. ☺️

    Hi Mari,

I use vinegar and salt for weeds in a sidewalk or driveway, but don't use the salt if you have other weeds in a garden. The salt "kills" the dirt so that nothing will grow and can also kill many plants that you may want. Wishing you the best.

  • This is the most effective weed killer that we've used. And it was featued on Hometalk. Good luck! Hugs, Holly
