How to avoid flowers from growing a top my garden salads and pak choy?
This year I am getting more "flower tops" on my salads, and pak choy in my garden, which prevents it of course from growing. I am cutting for use as it grows, but the flowers are growing faster that the veggies. In the past, I have always pruned the same way as it would grow, and I would get an abundance of these veggies, but this year I am getting minimal because of the flowers. Thanks L-J

The only way to stop the plant from bolting is to just cut the flowers off and just keep doing that process. Flowering is a plants way to grow its seeds. You really can't stop the process.
Hi Lja,
When plants do this it's called bolting and it's usually caused by too much heat. It's the plants natural way of going to seed. If a plant starts to bolt, immediately pick off the good leaves and pull out the plant. It will help if you stagger your planting times so that you plants are all in different stages of growth. Also you can keep the ground cooler with a think layer of mulch or planting it where it will get some shade Once a plant bolts, it's done producing good food. Wishing you the best.
Thank you Tammy,
I always had huge crops in the past, but this year so little, mostly flowering tops.
Thank you again
