We sucessfully fixed our annoying kitchen hardwood floor squeak a few week ago using one screw from a kit like this. The kits are in the big box hardware stores.
The screw is placed in the support below and the screw breaks off. Wax crayon covered the repar. Problem sucessfully solved.

Good luck to you Jane resolving your squeak!
We tried some other Internet tips such as putting graphite powder in the hardwood seam which did not resolve the issue.
Buying the kit weeks before.....Getting up the courage to put the first screw in took some time..... but the one screw ( perfect placement) fully resolved the squeak. Its failrly well camouflaged on our red oak floors too!
sprinkle power in the joints. or find where they squeak and screw them down or you can try nails.
thank you for answering my question!
