Not only is it “special masks and stuff” there may be special permits depending on your area, removal of all of the dust and fibres released in the process, and proper containment and disposal. Asbestos can’t just go in your regular trash pickup. If you are determined to do this yourself I would at least get an asbestos abatement company in your area to give you an estimate and discuss some of the regulations and hazards.
