How do I re-create a photo album my mom started probably in the 1940s?

The pages are in pretty good condition. It’s the holes that are broken. The cover is straw-like material. Over the years the fibers have dried up. There is a black, plastic, spiral spine that holds the pages to its cover. I would like to get it back to its original condition if that were possible.

  • Reinforcement labels will work for the holes. Not sure about the rest.

Places like kinko's have the binding machines that you could bring your items and they could possibly rebind them. If you have a store like that in your area, it may be worth a try.

Thank you John for your reply. I just learned that Kinkos is now a FedEx office.

I don't know that you'll be able to fix it. What I would do is find a scrapbook that looks similar and either put the whole page in or remove the pictures and copy it just as she did it. It would probably be better to remove the photos because the old albums had acid in the paper.

I really want to preserve the pages with the pictures. Except for the holes, these pages are really in very good condition. I am thinking about reinforcing the broken holes. I may have to end up buying a new album cover. Many thanks for your help.

i agree with the scrapbook idea. is better for the pictures. if they are glued down then do the kinko's idea or staples may be able to do the same thing if no kinko's is in your area.

Thank you Sparkles. It seems more and more difficult to keep the album's original straw cover. Will try to look for something similar if I could. Wish me luck.

Can you post a picture of the book?
