How much do i water my tomato plants?

I realize that this is not rocket scientist ! LOL I have four tomato plants that I bought at the beginning of the season. They had already started growing. I put each one in an old plastic flower pot container. The bottom has holes for draining. I water them each night. The problem: I have two plants where the leaves are dying. I don't know if I'm over watering . The soil is always moist. Advice please!-:)

My cherry tomatoes in pots look like that right now but my cherry tomaotes are about 5 feet tall and are producing--at least for a little bit longer until they are totally goners! They have a fungus and are dying. At this point in time there is not much you can do. I would let the soil dry out a bit in between watering so you may be able to get a tomato or two but it doesn't look very promising at this point! You can try to remove the yellowing dead leaves and branches but I think your plants are too far gone.

Looks like they have blight caused by too much watering. We had a wet season in VA, and only got a few tomatoes before all the flowers got beat to death by the rain. That’s all it took and they never recovered.

my local garden center had suggested to water in the morning, just at the roots as this gives the plant the hydration it needs during the day when the sun is the strongest.

If planting veggies in planters do not use potting soil. It keeps them too moist and is to dense. I use Pro-Mix which is like a peat moss/soil mixture and works great. Also, you could try putting a bowl of sorts under the planter and fill that with water once the plants have gotten established and they will drink what they need from the roots up. Blight is no fun I have had it before, better luck next time!
