Can Formica cabinets be painted?

hello! I dont know if formica is a similar surface to laminate, sorry, but Sugarbaker had great info about laminate painting....the thing is that while sanding is important on laminate, I think sanding may not work on formica...sorry for “non” answers, but instead of painting, there are kits at big box home improvement store for changing top coat, according to hubby.....

Yes, use a shellac based varnish (it can be tinted as you desire). Make sure you thoroughly clean everything before starting. I removed my handles and hardware and put them in the dishwasher, then spray painted them.
