Can I paint my popcorn ceiling?

I've had better luck with using a separate primer. Also, use a deglosser first, like Krud Kutter. Best of luck!
It really does not much matter if you are at a 2 coats level, but above 2 coats, paint with seperate primer will have better results.
Especially at the Level of:
1 coat primer + 2 or 3 coats eggshell or glossy
Rather than
3 or 4 coats primer+paint, which get quite globby rather than glossy.
Usually Paint with primer is fine on walls, but not on woodwork.
Don't forget to remove the doors and hardware.
