Lillian is this a central air, or a room model? For central, I set the thermostat and leave it alone.

Just set it to maintain the temperature you want in the space. AC works best in a space that remains closed. Humidity is the biggest enemy of AC, It works hard to remove humidity and you don't want to keep putting it back in the room. Just leave it on. It will cycle based on temperature.

Depends if you're worried about a high electricity bill or not. I leave mine on 75 when I am not home and 72 during day. If I am concerned will a high bill I could leave it off when I am at work and turn it on it on when I am home. It's a personal preference, there's no wrong or right way.

Use it on 90% And turn it off if it gets below 55 degrees outside.

Lillian. Is it a central unit? If so, pick a temp that is comfortable for you and leave it along.

In this current heat wave, leave it on (low power).

Turning it off just makes it have to work harder.

    Hello Lilian,

If no dial to set, then it's up to you to turn on and off at will, but

If it has a thermostat you should be able to dial in the temp. you require, and it should cut out when reached and on again when it is too high, giving you a steady temp.
