We have lived in this house for 7 years. The veneer hardwood was cheap and it’s shows EVERYTHING from footprints to a drop of water, any liquid really. I can not keep it clean. Not to mention the scratches and dents simply made by walking on it. I HATE MY FLOOR. BTW, my hubby of 40 years has no clue why I’m going crazy over my floor.

Unfortunately there are a number of questions that need answering before a qualified answer can be made,

    1) what do you use to clean / maintain the floor?

    2) who manufactured the floor?

    3) what is the species of wood?

The only way the engineered floors should be re-finished is a process called screen finished. This is a chemical removal of the existing finish, and then a re-application of a new finish. This will improve the asthetice of the floor. Depending on who made the floor also depends on weather or not you would be able to sand and coat the floor, sometimes the vineer is to thin to sand.

  • Refinishing veneer can be tricky. You will have to do some sanding in order to apply a new finish, but you'll need to be careful not to go through the veneer.

Sand it and put poly urethane on it? If you rent a floor sander, DO NOT LET IT KICK SIDEWAYS, only go straight ahead with the grain.
