Hello, please give me an idea to clean my wooden spoons. As I continue to use them, they turn blackish and even by scrubbing them it doesn’t go. Thank you.

Do not wash in the dishwasher once they are black

im not sure what to do

  • You could take some sandpaper and sand them.

Gursharan, I have never had a wooden spoon turn blackish. What are you cooking with them? Could it be a spice or something that's doing it? Give us some more info.

Sand them down, then treat them with mineral oil (because it is food safe and doesn't go rancid). They won't likely look brand new, but they will look much improved and there is great charm in a sort of patina from use.

If you leave wooden utensils soaking in pots or in water, they will darken much like wood weathers, so the less soaking time, the better. Every few times you wash them or whenever they start to look dry, put another coat of mineral oil on them after they dry.

I’ve bleached several at times. Had to learn to not leave them soaking. After they’re bleached, I leave in the sun a couple days to air out. Then sand and oil. And that patina makes you look like you’re a great cook - or inherited them.
