How to repair my wood table?

It appears that someone cleaned my wood dinning table with vinegar!!! The varnish has been removed in spots. These spots are sticky and I can’t figure out how to prpely clean it now. Do I have to sand down he entire table and try to match the chairs stain color?

You may just need to sand down the finish not the stain and recoat with polyurethane or varnish. Wipe down the sticky areas with mineral spirits. Lightly sand the whole table 0o remove any gloss. You can use a green kitchen scrubby. Wipe the dust off with a damp cloth. Then apply at least three coats of a water based polyurethane.

I would sand lightly and get a polyshades stain to match. It has a built in finish.
