Just use Rustoleum spray paint. I actually like the look the way it is if you are using it outside.

Thank you for your suggestion but I’m afraid it will continue to rust and fall apart eventually.

  • If you have a wire brush, scrub off as much rust as possible. Here are several methods for removing what is left.

If you truly want to remove ALL the rust, research "DIY sandblast" in your town. We have one that you punch a time card, put your item in a blast cabinet, they turn on the air compressor and you wear long gloves, view your work-piece through glass, as you blast with a hand-held gun. You pay by the hour. I piece like you are showing would take 10 minutes to get the hang of it and 20-30 minutes to make it awesome. It will have "satin" shine to it: raw steel..which will run SOON. When you "punch out" you pay they owner. (Glass beads and air compressors are expensive to run.) Then, do your best spray can paint job, with rust preventative primer, like Rustoleum, then coat with the spray color of your preference. It worked great for me. Cost $20 to do 4 wheels for a John Deere Gator that were really BAD. New wheels were over $400 OEM price. A coat of red primer and two JD Yellow and who needs NEW

Naval jelly with steel wool will remove the rust. Then spray paint with rustolem spray paint. Voila, like new!

Hello, you can use steel wool, a wire brush or sandpaper.
