Jet Pump Pulsating when running...On/Off?

I connect 6-50 gal barrels with 2" connectors to collect rain water to use to water down my inside arena. Pump starts fine then runs erractic on/off...on/off like a pulsating sound. I do not have a pressure tank, but seems to push alot of water when running. Could the pressure switch be the problem?????

Sounds like there’s more water going out than coming in. Surging. Or drawing air. Not sure ur exact configuration but even tho each “tank” is connected the only one in use has the pump in it. So until the other tanks fill that one with the pump you’ll be running dry in between. You’ll need one larger tank with pump for the connected others to drain into. I would if possible raise the connected 6 and have the connections at the bottom of the barrels. Let gravity assist. Then a two inch line drops from the 6 connected into the one larger container with pump. This will keep the pumped water flowing while your pumping. Also another point would be to make sure you’re reduced down coming out of the pump by at least 1/2 so an inch line then reduce again 5/8ths from the hose etc. if you still have the on/off going check for filters on the pump that may be clogged, and make sure all your fittings are tight. You’ll only need a pressurized system if your pump is level with or higher than your water source. Gravity keeps it pressurized naturally.

Check it and clean. Might have collected some build up ?
