How to convert a carport to garage in San Diego?
I have a carport on slab I want to convert into a garage. Of course new footings need to be installed as it is an attached structure. Would it be best to knock down carport and start over? slab would have to be removed anyways. I live in Imperial Beach and only one house was built with a legal garage (footer included, etc). The lot is tiny with no side room for a driveway and just enough room from the street.

It is a process, but you do need a permit. Since you already have a rendering from an architect, the process will go smoother. Just be patient. Are you going to do the work yourself or hire out?
