      since this is on a walk way it would probably be fine though since you won't be planting anything there

    Use vinegar. Spray it on the weeds and they'll be gone before you know it.

      Like I mentioned above, salt is bad for the soil. It won't matter in this case but this is basically what is said about salt: "If you’re interested in improving soil condition, don’t apply any rock salt to the area. Salt serves to weaken the integrity of the soil, and may damage it permanently. The only antidote is to remove the tainted dirt and replace it with new soil, and even that may not restore the area."

    You can also use just plain boiling hot water.

    Salt will kill anything. Some people like to pour hot water after the salt so that the roots will receive the salt that much quicker. Be careful with the salt because it will kill anything it touches. But it is a very effective and inexpensive solution.
