I want to bead board the bottom half and leave upper half papered. Would the paintable wallpaper work for this? How would it hold up? I'm not too hep on going with actual boards.

I think that would look great. Be sure to mention to the clerk at the paint store that it will be used in a bathroom where water and steam are involved. He will be able to guide you in the right direction with the materials you will need. Be sure to order 10% over suggested amount to allow for wrong decisions and mistakes. Best of luck to you.

Yes It would work it just won’t be as durable as the wood panels. It’s so easy to put up too.

  • Beadboard wallpaper is fantastic. It's so easy to install. Keep a few things in mind, though. It's still paper. So if you have kids who use that bathroom, think twice. If there's a shower, think twice. I've used it in a powder room and my own bathroom with no issues.

If you chose to go the route of adding a bead board and then adding a chair rail, it would paint nicely and hold up well. For bathroom walls, definitely use at least an eggshell finish for your final coat. Obviously you would want to prime raw wood with Kilz before painting. Personally, I would not paint over wallpaper. Over time, the moisture in the bathroom would allow the seams to come apart and it would look horrible. I would recommend removing the wallpaper and then priming the walls with Kilz, then painting. Long term, painting wallpaper is just not an option that with hold up.

Why paint the wall paper? Mine was almost opposite....couldn't fully remove a "tin pattern" print, so painted over it and now it looks rustic.
