How to get rid of gunk in the Dishwasher?

How do I get rid of the gunk on the bottom of the dishwasher. I've already used white vinegar and baking soda 4 times. Seems like much of the gunk is gone, but the little that is left is still too much. Is there another remedy?

  • Scoop it out. If there is large debris, I always clean it out before running the dishwasher.

A product made for dishwashers called affresh can help with odor and mineral deposits.

“Designed to penetrate, dissolve & remove odor causing residue. Power away lime and mineral build-up that can occur inside your dishwasher. Cleans dishwashers better than bleach.”

No I have never personally used bleach. Just the affresh in dishwasher and the HE washing machine. We have hard water problems and need to stay ahead of that and it oreforms beautifully for our situation.

I would first try a cup of clear vinegar. Place 8 oz. of vinegar in a low bowl on the top shelf of your dishwasher and run it on a hot cycle 'pot scrubber' cycle. Good luck.
